Amsterdam, briefly the capital of Rock and Roll
Elvis Presley was, and still is, a phenomenon. Still an example to many, it was Elvis who laid the basis for today’s pop culture. A sensation the world over, Elvis is bound to feature in history books 200 years from now.
In this sense, there are parallels with Amsterdam, which has been described in history books for many centuries as the creative centre of the Netherlands and platform for a wide range of innovative initiatives. Moreover, Amsterdam boasts a diverse (musical) culture. In other words, the city of Amsterdam is the perfect venue for the Footsteps of Elvis exhibition, where visitors are treated to an adventurous journey through the life of an artist who has no equal. In the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, Footsteps of Elvis tells the unbelievable yet true story that started in the small town of Tupelo, Tennessee, on January 8, 1935 and ended in Graceland, Memphis, Elvis’ home, on August 16, 1977. I am certain that you will enjoy the exhibition.
M.J. Cohen, Mayor of Amsterdam.
